YOUNG WIGS CONFERENCE LAGOS, 2019

On the 21st September 2019 at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Our Managing Partner participated as a speaker in a legal masterclass where he demystified BLOCKCHAIN AND SMART CONTRACTS to Young Lawyers and Law Students in a simplified and exciting manner. 

The Young Wigs Conference was convened by Inemesit Joy Dike Esq., a legal practitioner and member of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and the New York Bar, United States of America. It was designed to bridge the skills gap between young, upwardly mobile lawyers and the realities of the practise of law while encouraging innovation and creative skills for effective use of technology in today’s legal sphere. The theme for the 2019 Young Wigs Conference is “What Law School Doesn’t Teach You: Divergence!”

LEGAL & TECH NETWORK SUMMIT ‘19

On September 19th 2019, Rotimi Ogunyemi participated in a Roundtable session in the Legal & Tech Network Summit Themed Addressing Technological Disruption in Law and Business. The Regulatory Roundtable moderated by Nankunda Katangaza, Founder ALT Network explored “Big Data, IoT and AI: The role of regulation and education in creating sustainable impact and balancing the benefit and risk of technological disruption

The Roundtable also included Senator Ihenyen Lead Partner Infusion Lawyers, Naomi Amobi Legal Counsel Paystack Nigeria, and Chidi Nwaogu Co-Founder & Ceo Publiseer.

The summit brought together legal jurists, legal practitioners, legal technologists, academicians, law students, the Nigerian and wider African tech ecosystem and other stakeholders.

LAW PAVILION LEGAL-TECH/ AI SUITE DEMO DAY

On Monday 12th August 2019, Rotimi Ogunyemi and Akintunde Idowu represented our firm at the exhibition of the newly improved legal resources of law pavilion. 

Guests at the demo day participated in an interactive session about tech trends that can facilitate digital transformation and improved Practice efficiency, and also witnessed a demonstration of the newest products of Law Pavillion using THE NAGAMOTO RETAINER story. The products include AI SUITE, SOLICITORS AND ARBITRATORS TOOLKIT, CASE MANAGER, LAW PAVILLION PRIME and TIMI (Legal Research Assistant.

The event held at the Experience Centre at 20, Felicia Koleosho Street, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos, and was concluded with a private cocktail and networking session.

WORLD LEGAL SUMMIT 2019

On 1st August 2019 at Jos, Nigeria, Our Managing Partner Rotimi Ogunyemi, participated as a speaker at the 2019 World Legal Summit where he presented a paper titled: Data Security and Privacy in a Digital Society: Technological and Legal Perspectives

The World Legal Summit is a multi-party initiative that brings jurisdictions together in understanding and exploring the development of legislative frameworks for dealing with emerging technologies and global systems. The theme of the Summit centred on Identity and Governance, Autonomous Machines, Cyber Security & Personal Data.

Rotimi’s presentation addressed:

  1. Existing and Proposed Regulations in Nigeria
  2. Regulation and Standards
  3. Gaps in the existing regulation
  4. Practicality of regulations given rapid technology information
  5. Enforcement and Response from the Tech Industry

It was a privilege to have our Managing Partner contribute insight to a pressing area of global legal transformation.

2019 ANNUAL LAGOS LAW WEEK

On 20th June 2019 at the City Hall Lagos, our Managing Partner, Rotimi Ogunyemi moderated a panel session titled “Emerging Trends in Technology and Innovation” that featured other distinguished members like Mr. Kingsley Eze, Mr. Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, Mrs. Omowale David-Ashiru, Mr. Tunde Kehinde, and Dr. Andrew Nevin at the 2019 Annual Lagos week. 

The theme of the Law Week Conference was “Law and Development in an Emerging Economy”. The event featured technical sessions that examined the role of law as an instrument of development

Rotimi Ogunyemi will be on the Panel Session: “Regulating Emerging Technology Services in Nigeria: Challenges & Solutions” at the 1st Technology Lawyers Forum of the NBA- Section on Business Law scheduled to hold on June 11, 2019

The rise of technology to automate day-to-day processes in law firms is no longer new story in the UK and US and the clamour from clients to reduce fees has accelerated this. Africans have taken to mobile technology for financial services with alacrity but will they do the same for legal technology and the benefits it can bring to firms and clients? What challenges are there for training young lawyers especially as many start their careers working on the tasks that are now so easily automated? Is the legislative and regulatory environment for lawyers and tech innovators fit to support these developments?

Rotimi Ogunyemi will be sharing his perspectives on these issues and especially on the issue of legal training and education relevant to the fourth industrial revolution

NBA ANNUAL GENERAL CONFERENCE  2018 | ABUJA, NIGERIA

Our Managing Partner, Rotimi Ogunyemi will be on the Panel Session: “Emergence of Disruptive Technology in Legal Education and Legal Practice” at the upcoming 58th Annual General Conference (#NBA2018AGC) of the NBA scheduled to hold from August 26 – 30, 2018.

ITU ANNUAL REGIONAL HCB WORKSHOP 2018 | Abuja, Nigeria

Rotimi Ogunyemi will be a facilitator for the Session on Internet Governance and Privacy at the  ITU Annual Regional Human Capacity Building workshop.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the DiploFoundation in collaboration with the Digital Bridge Institute are  organising the ITU Annual Regional Human Capacity Building workshop for Sub-Saharan African countries. The event is scheduled to hold at Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, Nigeria.
